I call BS on that one. If picking the bike up by the saddle could bend or break any part of the undercarriage, it wouldn't last 50 yards with somebody riding it. More likely it's just poor QC, which fits with the rep that new Brooks saddles have. I've got a probably 35 year old B17 on my daily rider, and though I have to hold the tension bolt by hand when adjusting it, there's no sign of ANYTHING bending. (BTW, I'm a 190 lb high-mileage (8-10k mi/yr) rider).
