I would also like to plug IGHs. I commute about 4 miles each way on my 3 speed and it's perfect. I have a couple decent hills on my commute but nothing 1st gear can't handle. A Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub is damn near as reliable as a SS but more versatile. They were certainly built for minimal maintenance and to last a long time.
