Often people have reasons for doing what they do. Reducing the likelihood of theft may be a motivator for the Nishiki's owner. Sure, it's fantastic that you can bring your bicycle inside all the time, but it's not feasible for everyone. For all we know, the guy has a beauty of a Colnago that he rides on weekends.

The fixed gear bug is interesting. I've had several, and still do. I'll still upgrade to a nicer frame when I get a chance. The low end frame I have here in Arkansas was in pretty sorry shape when I got it, but rides nice.
