I stopped BMX racing by 1980. In high school we would pack our bikes and go camping for the weekend, I guess my parents didn't care about their minor child roaming the countryside, . I always enjoyed oogling the Phil hubs at the LBS that vever seemed to sell. In college a scrap yard in Fort Atkinson, WI got all of the factory rejects from Trek. I bought frames at the $1 a pound for aluminum and $0.15 for steel. The bonus was none of my bikes ever failed on me. After college I commuted to work on one of my scrap Treks.
