lowering stem = reduced neck pain?

so i have been searching for the fix to my neck pain. I originally had a 120mm 7* stem on the bike... i swapped that for a 110mm 16* stem which made things better... so i rode that for a while. For the century i did, i swapped over my wife's 75mm 40* stem, and got real upright... felt great. But i also noticed that no matter what stem i was riding, i was always more comfortable in the drops.

today i flipped my 8* stem over for -8, now my stem is about 4" below my seat, and it's been the most comfortable to date (for about hour in the saddle).

I was about to go out and buy a new non-cut fork because i thought it was the 'aggressive' seating that i was on that was killing my neck, but i think much of it could have been something else...

moral of the story, try something before you buy something, and then try again
