The current edition of Zinn's "Roadbikes" book is very crosser friendly. Any chapter that seems to need it has a section specially for crossers and there's good coverage of SRAM and Campagnolo. Other than that the book is just excellent - or at least it seems that way to me, but my bike tech skills are very rusty.
