Hard anodizing is really a thin layer, CD in Mavic terminology, abrasive brake pads went thru the CD layer
on my Ex 721 rims pretty quickly , then I swapped back to a normal brake shoe , its fine after that.

Machining is wearing down the braking track , you will have a little more wear on non machined surface, because ith a bit thicker.
