I like friction shifters. I swapped out my brand new rapid fire shifters, that came stock on my Fire Mountain, for some NOS Shimano Fingertip shifters. They were originally designed to be stem mounted on quill stems. I had to modify them to fit on my 1-1/8 threadless stem. BTW, it is the modification/upgrade that I am proudest of. One of the guys at the LBS said it wouldn't work, boy, was he surprised when I came in about a week later with them mounted and working on my bike.
