yeah unfortunately we wouldnt be back by noon, sorry . I prefer to keep a "look at things and shoot the poop" pace on group rides.

That part you're talking about is the canal path. That's different, although it's an alternative if you don't want to ride on the road for a mile through Manayunk until the trail picks up again on Kelly drive. Like you said it is doable, just not necessary if you don't want to ride it.
