Of course, that is changing the conditions significantly. If the OP had said "sliced into with a saw blade, then beaten by a baseball bat. . ." I suspect my answer would have been different.
I lived in P.R. China for a few years, bicycles were used as transportation, not trendy toys. I do remember that the first time I found myself riding, literally, shoulder to shoulder with the people around me seemed very uncomfortable; however, truth is that was a rare thing. But getting bumped, so common it was unworthy of mention.
