When they pull on the bars like that they are really pulling themselves out of the optimal position, but with that much effort they can't help it.
btw., is it confirmed that the wobble Andy had at the end was a mechanical issue? I thought he was just that knackered
edit: regarding the saddle thing, are there UCI rules for saddle position?

What in the world was wrong with Alberto's bike/seat?
He was constantly repositioning his body. I have never seen him do that so pronounced or often, it's a wonder he did not lose the TDF giving up so much time trying to stay properly seated.

It looked to me like he was riding a saddle that wasn't positioned correctly and he was sliding forward and then pushing himself back to the proper position.

No way is he supposed to be moving about in the saddle that much on completely flat sections of road. The only thing I was thinking was that he was scooting forward to get extra thrust down on the pedal to maintain the gear he was turning due to the high winds. In some places it was as head wind.
Maybe there will be a post race interview that will talk about it.

Granted I did a lot of jumping ahead when I watched the recording, but did the commentators even mention the issue?
I have not seen anything in the post race articles either.

This is perfectly normal, its called being on the rivet. All small riders do this, especially on a TT bike. Nothing wrong with his saddle, nothing wrong with the bike, nothing wrong with the positioning. In fact Contador has a VERY GOOD TT position for being a climber. Sliding forward like that is just an indication that he was going as hard as he can. Being on the rivet, google it 99ers
