I intend to ride from Providence to Boston (Cambridge) this Friday afternoon (leaving Kennedy Plaza around 4). I've searched back through the archives here and it looks like there are a few routes that people take: 152/123/138 over east of 95, route 1 or route 126 west of 95.

Route 126 seems a bit out of the way.

Route 1 seems like it would be the shortest, but not exactly pleasant.

However, google maps suggested a relatively direct, if convoluted, ride up route 114 -> random roads -> route 16 and this looks like a pretty nice way up to the city.

Any opinions about this in between 114 -> roads -> 16 route? It's about 10 miles shorter (50ish vs 60ish) than the route 126 -> 16 ride and the same distance as the 152/123/138. I'm thinking it would be hillier, but with less traffic than 152/123/138.
