I use gel pads when it is warm. When it is cold like it has basically been on the last 100 rides, i wear winter type gloves that are not cycling specific. I don't think gloves solve any numbness issues. I think there are many factors that increase the likelihood for having numbness.

1. New bike.

2. Being to tense. Squeezing bars.

3. Putting too much weight on hands. This can often vary from ride to ride. Not always a function of saddle position.

4. Not moving hands to a new position when symptoms arise.

I have seen numbness come and go on my bikes through the last two years. I can't really attribute it to one thing but know that all of the aforementioned are involved to different extents.
