This is a tough one, normally I would say too bad, follow rules, this is why motorists hate us cyclists yada yada, but then in NYC it is kind of different as city riders are generally insane. Not sure how I would ride in the city but I would be inclined to do what everyone else is doing. I personally always follow road rules.. but I have never ridden in the heart of a big city either.
