I agree. I am not following the OP's logic (if I could be so generous).

Until recently, if you wanted a SS/FG with road geometry, brake cable and bottle cage bosses, and front and rear brakes, your choices were building up an older road bike (like I and many others have done) or going custom. (Or a magic gear, which is a huge pain in the butt. )

Then the ENO hub came out which allowed you to use a frame with vertical dropouts.

But now there are quite a few road SS/FG bikes available. It's not like you don't have choices.
