On my mtn bike, I recently swapped out an 11-34 XT cassette & RD for the new 12-36 SLX cassette & Shadow RD.
It was a simple swap.
The Shadow RD is definitely needed, because the old XT RD moved at an angle that ran it into the cassette when shifting to the largest cogs.
