Hydraulics tend to feel a bit smoother and have a bit more power.
It is my opinion that mechanicals (read Avid BB7) are fine for what 95% or more of us are doing on a regular basis. The fact that they are nice and cheap doesn't hurt either.
I like the feel of Hydros, but I love being able to go to the Mom and Pop bike shop in BFE (or K-mart for that matter) and being able to get a brake cable or a lever cheap and right now if needed when out bopping around on trails
Hydro's certainly have their place especially in long DH situations where a mechanically actuated brake may be a liabiltiy or for folks like Mael who do to injury or impediment lack the hand strength needed to operate a mechanical disc effectively. I'm not bagging on hydro's, I'm simply saying most of us don't need them
Cannondale tends to be more expensive and give you less value for the money. Up untill recently they were throwing money at developing Motorcycles in an unpopular class (Motard) while the bike business suffered. I'm also no fan of their proprietary products.
