Sorry, but something will eventually turn up.
-100 on the seller - he should have reserved the bike for a reasonable time once he knew you were heading over - especially if he knew how far you had to drive.
I've offered to pay a portion or the entire amount on some bikes via PayPal to guarantee a sale. In more than one case that got me the bike.
