I didn't say leave the stuff in the tent, but if you are sitting out a multiday storm you don't have much choice if you want to eat. I generally travel in bear areas, but I only cook in the tent when I have to, I just sort of reject the idea of "never under any circumstance cook in the tent" kind of thing.
