strange loud "tick"

Lately, sometimes/once per ride probably, the front fork (?) of my bike makes a loud noise. A relatively loud "tick" - I cannot pin point when exactly. One time when riding hard over a bump in the road and it's there, riding again over several bumps no "tick"at all. But then again it can also happen when on a relatively flat, smooth road. I thought it may be some small stones that hit the frame. Anyway as it happens "regularly", I carefully checked the front bar/wheel/re-tightened everything and also checked the saddleclamp/chain/chainstay, thinking perhaps it's is not coming from the front?? I closely inspected the front fork which looks and feels OK, no scratches/dents/or whatsoever. Should I just ride and forget about it or have it checked - I am talking about a Specialized carbon Roubaix. I am reasonably carefull when riding but should this be a reason to get the bike checked as I don't want to crash due to a technical failure.
