1) Careful what you say about scientists and engineers. Some of us have technical backgrounds and our feelings are easily hurt!

2) An important factor in addition to weight is tire width. A thinner tire definitely has less rolling resistance.

3) On my morning ride, I was talking to the guy next to me. He is a serious clyde - I'd say at least 240#, much of it in his gut, and he was riding a carbon Madone. He mentioned that he has had problems breaking frames and I thought, but did not say, that this guy should be riding steel.
