Bikes: Trek 7.3 FX

This was my first week commuting from my house to gym which is 8 mile round trip (3x's), before I start the commute to work which is 14 miles round trip. I'm getting better about gearing and only cross chained once, but quickly noticed what was going on and corrected. I haven't had anybody yell at me from their car when passing, but I've had several cars redline the motor when passing. According to bike computer my average speed is 10mph, which sounds right since it takes me 20 minutes to go 4 miles to gym. I've always thought to have been in good shape and never had problem when weight lifting, but these short rides have killed my quads.
I've really enjoyed reading the forums on this site and have learned alot, and have quickly confused myself reading about cadence...lol.
