WD-40 is a water dispersant (WD). It's mainly mineral oil and a bunch of alkanes.
Wired did a chemical analysis. Tri-Flow or some other light-weight oil is probably a better lube, but WD-40 won't hurt anything.
if i had spray lube i would use that instead but i ran out and i no longer by lube
