You rode blind. You get what you get. I have no idea what I'm talking about of course, but then, I've never run anyone over either.
I don't race the TDF for a living and don't use a powermeter to impress the fans but I'm not that stupid enough to race for 30th place in a group doing 40 when all experience says that there is a chance that a rider doing the leadout may drop back from the lead group after the leading out.
The dude ahead could have called out the rider too but it is umd's responsibility to keep his eyes open. My bet is thathe was concentrating onteh camera looking for impressive footage so the members would think he's a cycling god. I've done it an crashed but I'm not crying about it in denial!
