I'm selling my baby because I'm having a baby. My wife and I are expecting our first child in less than a month. In order to finish off the baby's room with the last few pieces of furnishings required. I must sell my most prized possession; my beautiful red rocket and my baby for the last decade. I once had dreams of riding the Tour de France with this baby, HaHa! But life happened, yet the dream still lives in her.
This is rare, one of a kind, Miele Road Racing Bicycle. This all red motif cycle (nicknamed the red rocket due to the red frame, seat, tires, case, water bottle, and tape) was completely hand made in Italy. It was shipped to Toronto from Italy in the 80's and sold by a Canadian company that dealt in high-end cycles. The company eventually went out of business when the economy took a turn for the worst and they stopped importing and making their bicycles. The cycle had one previous owner before me. It belonged to a neighbour of mine; a very nice Italian man. God rest his soul. He passed away just over a decade ago and left me the bicycle in his will. It was his way to say thanks because one day I came home from College to find his window broken. Upon further investigation I got into an altercation with 2 young men who were there to rob his home. I got my first concussion but foiled their plan and earned the love and respect of this kind old man. Who often told me over long games of chess that life was too short for a man to down the wrong path. To this day I still think he was a Mafioso. He took extremely good care of the bicycle when he owned it. And when the cycle came into my possession I put the same meticulous effort, tender love and care into it as well. It was my way to honour his memory and to say thanks for such a beautiful gift. He often liked to boast that they don’t make bicycles like this anymore and that something this good must be treated with the utmost respect and spared no expense. In his later years he stopped riding the bike but kept it in his home like a member of his family. There are no scratches, and absolutely no rust, not a single spec. She has been wiped down with a cotton cloth every time I have ridden her and has always been stored upside down in my study upstairs. The old man also kept her in his living room next to pictures of his family. She has never been rode in the winter and has been basically been looked after like a Queen by me and like a daughter by the old man. There are very few of these cycles left in the Canadian cycle scene and she is a beauty; a real looker. Anyone who knows anything about bicycles and people in general will really give you looks when you ride by on this at lightning speeds.
The frame which is handmade and bent is an alloy composite which is very light. You can easily lift her with your pinkie finger. The rims are an aluminum/magnesium mix and are also hand crafted. Both the frame and the rims are handmade in Italy. The tires are high-end, double walled with a red racing stripe down the middle and were handmade in Germany. They are very quick and have excellent traction. They are brand new, replaced only a month ago and have less than 10km ridden on them. You can see easily tell when you look at the tires because the little hairs that are characteristic of all brand new tires are still there and have not been worn away. They are designed to give you 18,200km-29,120km of mileage which is an average of 50-80km/day throughout the riding season. I replace these tires every 2 riding seasons and I have used these tires in previous years and they are absolutely amazing and worth every penny; they are the most expensive money can buy. The aerodynamic racing seat is by Specialized and made of titanium and weights less than an ounce. It's incredibly light and very comfortable when in a racing position on long rides. This is a very high-end seat and is the very best money can buy. As a side note here, I also have the original seat that came with the bicycle which is more designed for casual riding as opposed to racing. It is made of high density foam which is tightly wrapped in black velvet. It takes but a few moments and an Allen key to switch the seats. The front and back tires are both quick release with high-end Shimano BioSpace SIS components. The pedals are custom made and Miele originals. They don't even manufacture this style of pedal anymore. They are far superior to the ones out today which require you to have an extra pair of shoes with you. These ones have a sweet little leather strap which is adjustable and tightens onto your shoe once you slip your shoe into the holster. It feels a lot like riding a horse and it gives you amazing grip on those tight high-speed turns. The tape is brand new, less than a month old. It is a very comfortable and breathable foam composite which wicks sweat away from your hands and is perforated so the sweat evaporates away as you ride. It is red and the ends are chrome finished. The gear levers, the brake leavers and housings, the front and back derailleur’s (sprockets) along with the gear changer and housing are all high-end Shimano BioSpace SIS components. I have added a red painted carbon-fiber housing for the water bottle and a red water bottle; both of which are from Specialized. As another side note I also have the original water bottle housing which is black and made of steel.
As a bonus I am including a Specialized red racing helmet, which is adjustable and fits all adult sizes. There is a locking mechanism at the back of the helmet that adjusts to your head and then locks in place. I am also including a red water bottle and yes I have already washed the disinfected the water bottle with bleach HAHA! So there are no coodies

on it as I am a healthy male, as healthy as a horse. And lastly I am including a very strong 2-piece locking system. The tires are quick release and therefore can be stolen quite easily. To prevent this it is required that you run this Kevlar-cored (the material that makes up the sheets in a bullet-proof vest) cable through the front and back tires and into the center of the frame. Then to lock the looped ends into the U-Lock before locking it through something securely mounted in cement. The helmet, water bottle and the locking system are compliments that come with the cycle. Also as a gesture of good faith I have had the cycle tuned up by a professional less than a month ago. A gentleman who works on the cycles of the Canadian National Cycling Teams; He is the only person who has touched the bike as in terms of tune ups for the past decade. I have never attempted to do any maintenance on it out of fear of messing up this finely tuned of instrument.
When you come to view the bike, if I sense that you have the wrong intentions or if you even look the slightest bit shady or give me a bad feeling: I WILL NOT SELL YOU MY BABY! and I will introduce you to my two security guard’s Obama & Spock. I want this cycle to go to a good home that is of the utmost importance. I would prefer to sell it to a seasoned cyclist who can add it to his collection or a collector. But I would consider selling it to someone who has a passion for cycling and will give this cycle the good home it deserves. It still has many years of riding left in it if properly cared for.
I am asking $820 for the package. I am very firm on this price so please don't insult me by negotiating for a lower price or low-balling the price. This is a very rare bike and the vintage value puts this a few hundred dollars above the few hundred dollars I’ve already marked it down from what I'm asking for here. Furthermore, if you go to your local cycle store and compare what you would get for about just over a grand on the stock entry road racing cycles you will quickly see that what you get in this $820 package with all these high-end components will trump anything that you pick up in the entry level and half of the mid level competitors. I've added lots of photos to give you as much detail on the bike as possible and hope they help give you an idea of what you are buying. You are buying a beautifully handcrafted bicycle, with a rich history, which has been lovingly cared for. Good luck, and may you have as much fun with her as the old man and I had with her. Cheers!
