Got a ride home from the Northbrook bike track from Babe Van de Velde(Father of John, grandfather of Christian). I had ridden my bike to the National Championships at Northbrook. This was maybe 1973?. Figured I'd get a ride home from somebody as the racing went well into the night. Dont know how I connected up with Mr. Van de Velde, but he told me to roll my bike into the back of his Lincoln Continental. The bike actually fit with the wheels on in the back seat. Put a big greasy chainring mark on the upholstry. He and his wife chouffered me home. Always wondered if he got that chainring mark out of the seat.
