It's the feeling of exclusivity people seek, not necessarily the "thing". Like wanting a DeRosa instead of a Circuit.

I'm guilty too. I love my Superior but I won't think of owning a Varsity. Yet. It's a affliction, I know.

Clearly $80,000 is overpriced, but I am guessing that absurdity is part of the marketing strategy. Over a certain price point "exclusivity", real or contrived, matters as well.
