If your goals are just the fitness and weight it makes much more sense to do more road ridding on a gear freewheel bike. For track racing very few people do road training fixed, its actually more of an off season road racer thing.
If you want to get into track racing we can definatly help, but your goals and plans dont really seem to match up.
I find myself working harder while riding my fixed Soho on shorter rides than I do longer rides while on my multi-geared road and mountain bikes. I get more tired more quickly, but its a good kind of tired lol. The only fg bike I presently have is the Soho-S....and it sucks when I'm riding into the wind...double suck when a 4% or greater uphill appears. Can you say barn-door aerodynamics? lol.
I guess I should clarify my inquiry with this question: I realize these track geometry bikes are not touring roadbikes,
but which of the bikes I've listed would be more "forgiving" when training fixed on a road-ride?
I understand nothing beats riding the track when the goal is to achieve competence on a track bike at speed, but I doubt I'll be able to make it to the track more than once a week with my present commitments/obligations, let alone twice a week. So....I gotta make do with what time and venue I have. I would think fixed spinning and intervals on flat roadways in the meantime would help develope the strength and stamina to ride better on the track, yes?
I get the deal with multi-geared bike rides as well....I use it for recovery rides and any ld rides over 30 miles where the hills are greater than 4% grade. I'm going to guess it helps with strength and stamina, too.
I'm just diggin' the fun I'm having riding fixed on the road and would like to make the transition to the track an enjoyable one to learn more and ride fast(er). Who knows...I may be on the wrong track (no pun intended lol) regarding my approach with training on a track bike on the road, but be that as it may I just want to know what are folk's experiences/opinions about the bikes I've listed. Nothing too complicated...and I hope to get some good coaching, too, maybe here
and at the track
