Thus, I went with a $100 CL Yakima QuickBack 3.
So, now my question is about load/weight bearing positioning. The instructions seem to indicate that covering the license plate is not an issue (really?), I even wonder exactly where on the license plate is the best load-bearing location?
Any suggestions?

IMO, you have a very sleek euro wagon, and that disaster you have on the back just doesnt belong there. throw some crossbars on the factory rails and a few bike trays. the beauty of wagons is that they are low enough to easily hoist your bike up there. add to that, you already have factory rails up there. benz practically spelled this solution out for you.
