Will do. About the only thing I know right now is that I want shifters built into the hand brakes. Also, I would like it to be as close to 20lbs as possible.
The biggest thing that's freaking me out is that everyone I talk to mentions the component sets as if they make or break the bike. I would absolutely hate to get a cheap bike just to find out that I don't like the stuff that's on it, and then spend 2x what the difference would have been for the better bike. I think that's why I'm leaning towards used so much. I've called on a bunch of bikes here and they have already been sold - within like 3 days of being listed. This means that if I get a bike, and I don't like it, the chances of me re selling it for only a few dollars of a loss are pretty good. Plus, the experience of riding it and then know what a little bit better of a bike than 100% entry level feels like could be worth the $50 or so I lose on it. If I buy a brand new bike and want to upgrade after a few months, I could lose a couple of hundred dollars I think. It seems like the best bike I can find dollar for dollar with all the "preferred" equipment is the Jamis Ventura Race. But if the component sets aren't everything everyone says they are, I would be just as happy with that Trek that you posted up for $650, maybe even $600 if I got a good deal.
EDIT: Probably going to keep my MTB for messing around, and going to sell my wife's bike so she can get something a little more suited to the trails and comfort as well. I want this road bike that I'm shopping for to be able to handle our rails-to-trails program (Pinellas Trail) along with any group rides I do with the local clubs. I'm thinking that while starting out I'll be doing 50 miles a week, and then working into 100. I think 100 miles a week would get me in club riding condition fairly quick, and once I'm there it shouldn't be too hard to stay in that condition.
