misstatement of the laws in your state leaves you little credibility, ian. mischaracterizing a law that requires a cyclist only operate "
as far right as is practicable and safe" into "as far right as possible" is either dishonest or specious. which one, ian?
you've gotten off to a bad start with that type of misleading denigratory mischaracterization of traffic laws.
here's a link to your states' reiteration of traffic laws as they apply to bicyclists, ian!
maryland actual bike laws and not a misstatement of them
as to ian's stated natural preference of travel lane versus on road bikeway, despite ian's assurance bikeways do not work for people with more than two weeks experience, his assertions are lacking any basis in fact - On many higher speed roads where traffic speeds and volumes are high or during inclement weather or poor visibility even the most stalwart vehicular cyclist will find a developed and maintained bikeway facility preferable to claiming the travel lane at all times.
Travel much interstate in those 40 years, ian? where again do bicyclists prefer to ride, say on the sierra cascade route between salem and the california border? in the travel lanes of the I-5 and not the designated bikeway called the shoulder, eh? those would only be the bicyclists with less than two weeks experience i guess would choose to operate on a bikeway like that and not the travel lanes. how stupid of me!
a false dichotomy of VC
OR bikeways is part of the fraudulence of the elite VC message.
VC and bikways planning can be complimentary and can coexist, a vehicular cyclist can prefer and lobby for well considered bikeway treatments.
FHWA compliant, on road bikeway treatments are designed in accordance with the rules of the road for drivers of bicycles and do not conflict general vehicular rules.
FHWA compliant bikeways do NOT conflict with core vehicular cycling principles.
FHWA complaint bikeways do not conflict with vehicular cycling principles like operating FRAP when travelling slower than other traffic present and needing to overtake or destination positioning as (I Believe most) all states allow bicyclist to destination position either in the presence or absence of bikeways etc.
