Thank you. It has been years since I commuted by bicycle (just recently purchased a mountain bike for fitness purposes and thinking of getting a road bike for enjoyment as well). When I did I rode on a two-lane facility with <1ft shoulders and a posted speed of 45mph. I was hit by a car once and was able to limp away fortunately, but several times a week I would be forced off the road by large trucks and end up in the swale. Don't see many bicycling commuters in my current local (Dallas) but when I was in Austin for a few years I saw a fair number. With one single exception, they seemed to behave much like motorists--sometimes they followed the laws and sometimes they didn't, but it seemed like every other month there was a death or injury on 360 or 620 (50+ mph facilities that were popular with cyclists). Both those facilities had 6+ foot shoulders for the cyclists, yet the accidents occurred where you'd expect, intersections and ramps.
