several weeks ago my dad blindsided me with the best birthday gift ever. he gave me his beloved tommasini tecno (complete with record 10spd) he didnt want to part with it, but do to repeated back injuries he knew he would never be able to enjoy it and thought it was time to pass it down.
this all had happened several days before a week long organized ride, and with his permission, i stripped the bike of its full carbon fiber record 10spd bits and bolted them to a cheap aluminum frame for future racing. this was permitted because he knew i had big plans to "restore" the tommasini to its former "period correct" build.
the bike now wears its original 8spd record ergo levers and cranks that i had perviously converted for 10spd use. originaly, all the other parts were 8spd chorus but i ditched them in favor of the all aluminum mix of campagnolo 10spd parts i collected this spring for a different frame. the bike now looks like it did when new, but still has a 10spd cassette.
the first ride on it was
unbelievable not only did i nail all of the adjustments first shot, but the frames ride is
impeccable
i have owned several steel frames (including one 853 frame) but they dont hold a candle to this thing. it has an unbelievably supple ride but sill feels perfectly solid. its hard to describe as it doesnt flex at all but i wouldnt call it "stiff" like my aluminum race bike. all i know is i am in heaven.
i will try and get good pictures tomorrow but for now here is a cell phone shot of her arriving to her knew home:
