Ditto, cat5 as well.
This race was supposed to be a tale of crosswinds, the gutter, and the centreline. However, it just wasn't that windy yesterday, and in the one section where we had a bit of crosswind, nobody made anything of it. Perfect recipe for a bunch sprint in the 5's.
I started right at the back, so with the centreline rule, narrow roads, and lethargic pace until the first rollers, it took me a little while to make it to the front. Then I spent some time near (and on) the front and trying to get away. Every time a move I was in got a little bit of separation, somebody would miss a pull and it would die out. The most promising of these was a solid attack that I had to jump hard to bridge up to. There were 3 of us, and one of the guys skipped what would have been just his 2nd pull. That one fried me enough that I re-joined the middle of the pack and just sat in.
The finish consisted of an incredibly long, flat, straight, and slow drag down one road, where the field was centreline-to-gutter and very twitchy. I couldn't make any headway through the field on this part, so I was probably 20th into the last turn (800m and one freeway overpass to the finish, and no more centreline rule on this stretch). Ended up 6th.
