Conti 4000 overkill for a recreational rider?

Crashed and tore up my left tire - was worn anyway. LBS tried to sell me on a Conti 4000 to replace the stock tire that came with the Roubaix.

Of course it's the most expensive clincher they sell , but as I am a rec rider (50-100 mile weekend trips plus the occasional 25-mile RT commute to Boston) I wonder whether it is overkill.

I see plenty of other tires (including Gatorskins and Race) for $20-30 less. not big money, but I don't want to waste it either.

(700x25c is the size, both front and back)

also, is there any great advantage to replacing both tires at the same time? the front one is worn but not completely done for...
