I generally use the same approach my wife used on me. That is I come home with the bike and exclaim about how it was on SALE!!. Could not beat the price, it was on SALE!!. But do consider she is now my ex-wife, I do find cycling purchases much easier just having a girlfriend.
That is good approach. I had a deal with my wife that I wasn't going to get a new bike until I reach a weight target. Then I saw the bike in CL and I told her that was a great deal and it must be a scam, but that I should contact the seller.
That conversation happened after I already emailed the seller
And then I brought the bike home claiming how great the deal was and she was like: "I thought you said it was a scam."
