I am a long time competitive distance runner who switched to cycling to save my knees. Over my years of cycling, I have found the fit that works best for me:
1) Saddle forward - cockpit remains the same between bigger and smaller bikes with stem length.
2) Lots of seatpost on a standard geometry bike to accommodate fairly full (but not complete) extension and toeing.
This style of fit seems to be in conflict with some of the "norms" I see here.
A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to a friend who was a college crosscountry runner and swimmer, now Cat I rider and sponsored triathlete. I described my fit and his response was, "Of course you set it up that way. You are a runner. Runners want more extension and to get there legs under them."
Well, at least it explained why I set up my bikes as I do.
Runners, how do you "fit" your bikes?
