I've driven that route often, taking the Black Canyon to go north and coming back on the back roads through Prescott/ Yarnell etc.....

The main problem is that most of the mountain roads have little shoulder and many turns. And Sedona is nuts anyway. if I was going to rtry it now, I'd use a hybrid and "wing it" assuming my tires can take off-road debris.
