It depends on where you tour, what your risk tolerance is, what your weight tolerance is, where you park your bike, how long you leave it unattended, etc. There is no right or wrong answer, and there seems to be no consensus. In rural America, almost any approach will work. In Times Square overnight, almost no approach will work.
