I "retired" from that fancy racer position 10 years ago and never looked back. I prefer to keep my speed down especially in heavy traffic or lots of pedestrians about. I think that if part of your body is not completely resting on your hands and wrists, it makes for a far more comfortable long or short ride. Plus you get to really see your surroundings rather than just staring at your front wheel & fork.
