you need to have the right campag or shimano brifter and buy their computer to have an on
screen gear indicator

I just look down and .... only use a simple bike computer to count the miles.

A CPU afaik is not in a bike computer .. no Intel inside .. its just a simple counting IC. with enough memory to remember the wheel size you input.
