Hey TomD 77, super job!! Let me let my ego get in the way and give you a sentence or 2 about me--mostly to build a little credibility with you--then I will give you a few ideas that I have seen work for lots of folks. I am soon to be 67. Have been running "seriously-logging miles" for just over 34 yrs. Current total:71,600 +. Numerous marathons and ultra marathons. Back on a bike sine 5/5/10 and have ridden a little over 2,400 miles. I have coached 100's of runners over the years. Here goes:
Exercise for fitness:Eat for diet. Say what? Read it again and let it sink in.
You didn't get to over 300 pounds in less than 1 year: Please slow down, losing too much weight too quickly can be very dangerous. You have already lost enough weight to make another person. Make your goal to be fit the rest of your life. The fitter you get, the weight will drop till you get to kind of your "natural set point"--whatever that is.
I might suggest you try some gentle walking to your program. The nearly 100 lbs you have dropped will make it more enjoyable and you will reinforce your new fitness life style. Remember, a body in motion tends to stay in motion.
Now, I will give you my .02 cents on post exercise eating/nutrition. It is very important to quickly replace carbs/protien. Here is what I use and have seen numerous endurance atheletes thrive on it. Endurox R4. Great stuff for recovery. Skim chocolate milk/orange juice. Re-hydration quickly is the key.
Jeez, I have rambled. If you would like, send me a PM. I rather talk than type.
Keep up the good job--just remember to enjoy the journey. Nick
