Training to keep up with a fast group is less about increasing your 5, 10, 15 minute wattage and more about understanding when the faster parts are, when people attack and how not to blow yourself up.

Also, the effects of reduced rolling resistance are noticed the most when sitting in on a fast group ride so pump up your tires and take of the gatorskins.
