Are you riding at the back? If so, you're more susceptible to the accordion affect when the group surges. If you're able to move up into the top half, you may find that it's faster but easier.
I'm at the back when I get dropped but before that I am doing the rotation through the group taking my turn at the front. Maybe I should do as mentioned above. Not taking as long a pull or not being at the front at when going uphill may save me.
I think I blew up last night into the wind up a rolling hill when I was at the front. But what really killed me was when the faster group passed us and our group surged from the mid 30's to the mid 40's while trailing the other group.
I will go back next week as thats the last club ride of the season (its getting dark at 730pm up north) and some of the guys continue to ride on different days into the fall. I wish I had another couple of months.
