6061 heat treating share available

I'm going to get my cracked & repaired Haluzak Horizon aluminum seat heat treated according to Easton's instructions for 6061 in San Jose, CA. It's $175 for the two phases and there's a lot more room in the oven, so anyone else in the SF Bay Area with a Haluzak seat that would like it to be 2x as strong is invited to share. PM me for details.

1st is 30 minutes at 980 degrees which dissolves the alloying components into the aluminum followed by a quench that freezes them there. It'll be at T4 temper at that point & can be bent back into alignment. Then it sits for 72 hours and lastly is artificially "aged" for 8 hours at 350 degrees which causes alloy components to precipitate out, stiffening the metal to a T6 temper.

Heat treating should really be done in a jig because the metal will relieve any stresses such as a bad miter bridged with a weld, by moving to relax them. I have no way to do this with my parts & it's pretty thin material, so I'm going to build a cardboard & scrap wood alignment jig & try to bend to fit that jig right after quenching when the metal is softest (at the treatment plant- they have a space set aside for such work). It remains to be seen how well that'll work & I may end up with a pretzel.
