Bikes: I've lost count.

Will shimano compatible 8spd chain work with a campagnolo 8 speed cassette?

I've looked at Sheldon's site, I searched for topics here, I looked at the Park Tools website but I haven't found a definitive answer to my question.

I have an old Avanti road bike that is built up with a campagnolo mirage 8 speed group. The bike is currently fitted with a 21-12 cassette. I have acquired a new 26-12 8 speed campagnolo cassette which I need to fit so I can actually ride up the hills. The current chain is getting to the end of its life and I want to replace the chain when I swap the cassette anyway.

My question is do I have to find and buy campagnolo 8 speed chain or can I use any 8 speed chain from my LBS?
