Because wool has fallen out of favor for a large part due to synthetics you can pic up a lot of outerwear at thrift stores for mere pennies. Sweaters and button up shirts seem to always be on the rack for a few bucks. Plus you have the added fun of compiling all the stuff which can mean a day hitting all the local thrift stores. You'd be amazed at the other treking gear (tents, rain gear, camping supplies), and sometimes bikes with good parts that you can drag home. There are only 2 things for which I will pay premium prices for: socks and shoes. Spare no expense for the personal comfort of your feet.
