A surprisingly common misunderstanding of bicycle gearing. For similar gearing range: smaller wheel, relatively larger chainwheels and smaller cogs. Larger wheel, relatively
smaller chainwheels and
larger cogs.
Fortunately, some folks do understand this or the whole 29er things would have never gone anywhere! (Not to mention the little wheel road bikes Alex Moulton has built for the last 48 years.)
