So in a lot of ways, my life is fairly simple, but I still think I buck the trend in this thread.
My apartment is ~550 square feet. I've never had a TV as an adult. I have a prepaid phone, because I just don't use it very often, and don't wind up buying minutes that go unused this way. My possessions are fewer than most peoples' that I know of, but they're ... very carefully chosen, and sometimes they're not cheap.
I have a lot of wool base layers, and got rid of most of my cotton and poly tees. Merino is more expensive, but it's so much more comfortable on the bike, wicking sweat and all that. On that note, I have good rain gear ( waterproof & breathable parka and pants ), partly because of the bike. A GPS to track my miles, feet climbed, and to email maps of my routes, and lots of other possessions that are geared toward the bike. It's not just that these things aren't free ( although you could buy lots of wool for a typical $350/mo car payment ), but also that I tend to put some time into trying to figure out what stuff is best for me, which sometimes feels a little materialistic. I mean, a lot of us really love our bikes...
