Hey Bruce, I'm not too worried about springing for a new chain. The larger concern is if putting in a new 8-speed cassette (such as a megarange) would require other equipment changes besides the chain, such as a different rear derailleur. I suspect (hope) not, but I'm no mechanical expert.
